From today until Sunday, Knox Robinson Publishing is offering their popular biofic Harald Hardrada: The Last Viking as a free download in all Kindle stores around the world! I already snagged a download for myself and wanted to share the links with you!

In the dead of night, a band of Vikings ravage a lonely convent on the Brittany coast -and their fearsome leader makes a decision that will eventually lead to his downfall. Ranulf de Lannion is fifteen years old. Crippled, deformed and abandoned by his family to the charity of the convent, he is seized by the Vikings during a midnight raid. Contemptuously nicknamed ‘The Scraeling” by his captors, his future appears grim. Harald Sigurdsson, or ‘Hardrada’ as he will come to be known, is the leader of the Viking band. A violent mercenary with designs on the throne of Norway, Hardrada abducts The Scraeling on a whim. Ranulf grows into an invaluable asset, smoothing Hardrada’s path over their thirty-five years together from mercenary to commander of the Varangian Guard, all the way to king of Norway. But all is not as it seems in the heart of Ranulf de Lannion. Having sworn secret revenge upon Hardrada for the murders at the convent, he vows to end the day of the Viking forever. When the king of Norway launches an attack against the Anglo-Saxon throne of England in 1066, what role will The Scraeling play in bringing the age of the Viking to an end?

How to Get Money From Your PayPal Account Using #PayPalCoinstar #CBias

Yesterday Little Girl and I had an evening date planned. She has been wanting to see Mirror Mirror at the theater, and I finally had a moment free! We began our evening by getting dolled up (Little Girl mostly) but I did my best to get spiffed up. We enjoyed ourselves at the movie theater, and laughed at so many parts of Mirror Mirror. Afterwards, we made our way outside for her to take a photo near the theater poster.

After we left Cinergy Cinemas in Corsicana, we headed to Ole’ Foods grocery store.
Ole’ Foods is a local grocery store, and one of the two retail locations that has a Coinstar machine that I can withdraw funds from my PayPal account. When I arrived, I couldn’t find the machine anywhere. I saw a Blockbuster movie kiosk, but couldn’t figure out where the #PayPalCoinstar machine was in the store. I kept looking until I thought I saw a PayPal logo.
I was able to find it near the pharmacy area, very far out of the way from sight. It is not visible from the front of the store, and you can’t see it outside. When I went to use the kiosk, it was blocked by a poster board. The poster board said that it was open from 9AM until 7PM daily, and I arrived before 7PM to use the machine. All of the windows in the business office had closed mini-blinds, and I wasn’t sure if I would be able to get money from the machine. I asked to see a manager, and a lady met with me at the front of the store. I explained that when I arrived, before 7PM everything was closed already. She said to me “We aren’t going to give you money are we? Do you have something printed out saying you are to use this machine?” After I showed her my packet, she told me to just remove the poster board and then go to the cash office when I was done. She was sure to tell me that she doesn’t know how PayPal works on the machine, but has just seen that it is available.  I told her that it is convenient to convert your coins and apply the total to your PayPal balance, or you can cash out funds from PayPal using the kiosk.
And this is what greeted me. An almost empty bottle of Crown Royal. I can’t make this up folks. You can see more photos of it in my Google+ Album. I even found a nail, two buttons and lint sitting on the card reader. I showed her the bottle, and she simply laughed and walked away without throwing it away or moving it for me. I left it there, even though a trashcan was sitting on the floor next to the kiosk overflowing with garbage. How about that for customer service? Way to keep the PayPal and Coinstar brand fresh on one’s mind. I then began my transaction.
I chose to withdraw money from my account from the Coinstar options. You are able to take out a limit of $500 per month, and no more than $200 per day including the $3 transaction fee. So, in all I could have withdrawn $197 yesterday. I chose to only take out $100 from my balance. The minimum amount you can take out is $5, but it will still cost you a $3 fee.
Two receipts print out, one that you keep; and one that you take to the business office (if your’s is open, and all.) They will exchange your Cash Value voucher for the amount you withdrew.
You will keep your receipt, and will have your money in hand. In all, the machine took about 3 minutes to use, since I actually read the fine print.
After picking up a Coke, Aunt Jemima Whole Wheat Pancake Mix, marshmallows for Rice Krispie Treats, and fresh ground sausage for this morning’s meal. Little Girl and I headed home.
As you can see, within just a few moments I was able to have my $100 in hand. I paid a small fee, which still costed less than paying ATM fees including out-of-network bank charges for taking money out of my bank account. This will come in handy for me, since when we opened our PayPal account years ago we used B’s name for the account. I am unable to transfer funds into my bank account through PayPal since my accounts don’t share the same name. They refuse to change it, even with proof that the account is all mine. $3 isn’t much of a fee to get money out that I can use. You can also like Coinstar’s Facebook page, or follow Coinstar’s Twitter page. Not only can you follow and like Coinstar, but you can also like and follow PayPal’s Facebook, and PayPal’s Twitter pages.

For my giveaway, I want to offer you the chance to win an awesome TTC (trying to conceive, for those who don’t know the lingo ;D) Kit with a value of $152! It is an all-in-one, natural, proven solution for helping women conceive sooner and more easily than ever before!  How exactly does this kit help you in your journey to get pregnant?

According to the website:
“Your fertility cycle depends on a complex inter- action between several hormones that induce ovulation and maintain the cycle after ovulation. In cases of cycle irregularities, you may never find the precise cause. However, you can still take heart from the fact that FertiBella by itself can often improve cycle regularity and lead to long-awaited pregnancies.
-The post-ovulatory part of the cycle is called the luteal phase, and a shorter than normal luteal phase is evidence of a possible luteal phase defect, usually caused by the hormone prolactin inhibiting LH, FSH, and progesterone. Improving luteal function, by lowering prolactin levels to restore regular cycles, and restoring low luteal phase progesterone and high luteal phase estrogen to normal levels. can assist in helping to achieve a sustainable pregnancy.

- After ovulation, the corpus luteum secretes progesterone which maintains the endometrium for possible implantation (and subsequent pregnancy). Progesterone also causes the basal temperature to rise slightly, and the combination of decreased estrogen and increased progesterone causes the cessation of the cervical mucus discharge. Low progesterone levels can contribute to luteal phase inadequacy, and restoring progesterone levels to normal levels can help restore cycles back to normal.

- At the start of the ovulation process, as the ovarian follicle develops, it secretes estrogen which causes the cervix to secrete a mucus discharge which is necessary for normal fertility and sperm migration. Depending on the quality of the mucus, cervical mucus can be described as less fertile or more fertile. When ovulation is about to occur, cervical mucus gets very moist and has the resemblance to uncooked egg white. If cervical mucus remains too scant or dry, fertility will be impaired. Restoring mucus to the classic pattern is of paramount importance to achieve pregnancy.

- When the hormones of ovulation, FSH & LH, are consistently low, follicle development does not occur and the endometrium does not develop, resulting in neither menstruation nor ovulation to occur. FSH & LH levels must be sufficient to cause ovulation of a mature egg. If levels are insufficient, the result is either a failure to conceive or early miscarriage. Discontinuing chemical contraception, being too overweight or too thin, or even excessive caffeine consumption can all contribute to ovulatory dysfunction. Induction of ovulation may enable a woman to overcome the ability to conceive or carry a pregnancy.

- A woman’s fertility depends upon a complex interaction between several hormones which induce ovulation and maintain the cycle after ovulation. Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) begins the ovulation process. Estrogen causes the cervix to secrete cervical mucus, and then luteinizing hormone (LH) is secreted which causes ovulation. Progesterone is then secreted after ovulation to maintain the endometrium for implantation. Insuring that each of these hormones is at proper levels will help increase chances of successful conception.

- A continuum exists between normal high fertility, cycle irregularities, and complete infertility. Cycle irregularities do not necessarily indicate infertility, although recurring cycle irregularities may mean decreased fertility. A post-ovulatory phase which is quite a bit shorter than 12-16 days of elevated waking temperatures may indicate luteal phase defect. Several factors are responsible for cycle irregularity and may be remedied by additional vitamin and supplement infusion to balance the cycle.”

Picnik.com is Shutting Down April 19th, 2012- My Thoughts, and What You Need to Know

Picnik is closing, so you might want to edit those photos that you’ve had sitting around for all those one-day projects. I know, it’s awful for those of us who have been using it for a while. Even more so for those who are new users of Picnik.com. Picnik joined Google in 2010, and on April 19, 2012… Picnik will be no more.
Picnik Takeout is their newest feature which allows you to download your photos to your desktop in convenient zip files. You can also choose to copy your photos to your Google+ page where you can store and share them. You can request your photos at any time by using this tool as many times as you would like until Picnik.com closes on April 19, 2012.

If you are a current Picnik Premium member, they will be issuing a FULL refund of your membership fee within a week of today’s announcement. They won’t be doing the whole- “Oh! You’ve used it a bit, so you’re only getting pennies on your dollar back.” They are refunding you the whole $24.95, even if you are on your last day of membership,
As I stated above this news is awful, but they are trying to show their gratitude for the last 5 years that users have been creating photos using their program. Picnik Premium is now free for everyone until they shut their doors (so-to-speak.) You can use all of the Premium features, touch-ups, textures, advanced options and MORE for free! You can still create using Google+ Creative Kits.

Now, for what is really on my mind. Reading that they are closing only confirms that Google is pushing their Google+ on everyone. Do I think it is wrong? Well, I suppose. However- things can’t change for them unless they push us to change. If they keep with what they know people are comfortable with (GFC/Picnik) they won’t be able to make that next step in the social networking world, that step being their oh-so-omnius Google+.

They know they had a successful product, and are now taking complete advantage over it. There are SO many changes that are affecting bloggers lately. All at the hands of Google. I’m not sure if you have heard yet, but in all reality, Picnik.com is just following in the footsteps of Google Friend Connect. Many bloggers rely on GFC to connect with readers, but Google will no longer be supporting GFC on non-blogger blogs.
They are really pushing for Google+ to take it’s place. They want you to add us to your circles, and I would really appreciate if you add Mommy Does… to your Google+ Circles. I’m asking for you to throw me a bone, since in the some-what future, I plan on switching my blog over to a new domain name, and I will become self-hosted. This will start me back at square 1, so any help now will come in handy later.

With so many changes affecting bloggers lately, and with so many bloggy-friends loosing their blogs indefinitely (because Blogger is owned by Google, and Google can apparently do what they want, when they want, based on their terms of use) I’m afraid of loosing my blog. I don’t want to log-in one day to discover they I’m no known as the owner of my blog, when in all reality- I’ve spent more than a year trying to make it a successful creative outlet.  From my own research, a total switch to WordPress.com will cost nearly $200 after I self-host and all that. I’m planning on finding someone to switch me over, but I can’t really afford to shell-out enough dough on a switch at this time. Other things in life take priority.
Why do you think Picnik.com is shutting down? I think it’ cruddy, and now you know why. I enjoy making photos of my little ones, and my friends’ children. I suppose it might be time to invest in Photoshop? Oh yeah, I’m too cheap for that!

C’est La Vie, Picnik.com!

Purex Tropical Splash Crystals & Jockey Tech Terry Performance Sports Bra- #PurexInsiders Review

Purex Crystals Tropical Splash fabric softener is making a comeback! Did you know that liquid fabric softeners contain softening oils that prevent moister wicking fabrics from working? I didn’t. Ever since high school I have wondered why the moister wicking clothes I bought worked great when they were new, but ended up not wicking sweat away after continued use. The fabric would have a thick and heavy fill to it, and not once did I think it was the fabric softeners I was using over time! Purex Crystals doesn’t use oil as their softening agent, so it is safe for all types of laundry. That includes the all new Jockey Tech Terry Performance Sports Bra which currently has a 20%  discount code on the Purex website!

I have been able to find the Purex Crystals Tropical Splash fabric softener in the past, and I’m very happy that is is making a comeback! My mom loves the crystals, and B likes that they help his clothes smell fresh even though he works with 18-wheelers and diesel smells always make their way back home by way of his jeans.

”Purex Crystals are 92% natural crystals that go in at the start of the wash so they spend more time with your laundry infusing them with long lasting freshness. Purex Crystals fo not contain oil, so it can safely be used on all laundry including: athletic wear, towels, children’s sleepwear, and everything else!”

“The sports bra is moister wicking, has a convenient key pocket, it has a reflective logo on the back, has breathable mesh panels and a soft band for comfortable support.” It can be machine washed and dried.

I wish I could give the sports bra a great review, but I simply can’t. I requested the XL Tech Terry Performance Sports Bra, as Jockey.com’s sizing chart said that XL is for bust sizes 42-44″. When the bra arrived, and I tried it on the first time, I was nearly out of breath taking it off! It was horribly tight, and nearly didn’t come off at all. What a sight it would have been if I would have had to cut it off, or call my mom over to help me get out of that thing! I’m sure my Little Ones were trying to figure out what all that noise was coming from my bathroom while I told them I’d only be a minute. I know this is embarrassing, but I’m not going to sugar-coat it.
I’m highly disappointed that Jockey.com didn’t provide a true-to-size chart. I might be the only one who had trouble, but I know I won’t in the future. This is why I refuse to purchase bras or panties online. You just never know how they will fit. I know I’m not the smallest woman out there (and I don’t really want to be.) However, I know what size bra I normally wear everyday and it’s not even a 44″ bust. I requested the size up from what I wear, and it still didn’t fit correctly. My mom who wears a bust size in the 30′s couldn’t even wear the XL sized sports bra I received. She had the same trouble, and she is far smaller than I am.
I am happy with the Purex Crystals, I just wish I could say the same for the bra.

Purex Ultra Packs Laundry Detergent- #PurexInsider Review

Remember the Purex Triple Action laundry detergent I reviewed? Well, now it is easier than ever to use! Purex has formulated pre-dosed packs called Purex Ultra Packs. They are very excited to launch this new product line in February 2012. There are times when I just want to hurry up and get our laundry done. If I’m running low on laundry detergent, I know that all I need is a pre-dosed laundry detergent from Purex and I’m on my way getting back to all my motherly duties.

Before I was able to review the Purex Ultra Packs myself, B already found them in the box and took it upon himself to do his own clothes (he is great at that, just not so great at doing mine or the little ones’ laundry.) There are 18 Mountain Breeze fragrance Ultra Packs in the bag shown above. There are also Free & Clear Ultra Packs available. They are very convenient to use, and would be perfect if you frequent laundry mats, or just don’t want to have a huge jug of laundry detergent lying around. It’s Laundry Simplified. Using cold water, I started a large load of laundry and one pack cleaned just as well as a cap full or laundry detergent. The packs are formulated and safe for all machines, including high-efficiency (HE.) B really likes the ease of using the Ultra Packs, and I know my Nuderma will be happy to learn more about them.

The Purex with Zout was a huge success last year, so in February 2012 FreePurexSample.com will be continued!

Make Your Own Laundry Detergent! #DIY Laundry Soap Recipe

During November, I really began thinking about where we were “wasting” money so-to-speak. As I’ve stated here quite a few times, I am one of the cheapest people. I know that cheap doesn’t always equal quality, but I also know that you can come by quality for cheap if you keep your eye out. If you know what things cost, and are an informed consumer than chances are you will have a hand-up in the savings game. I came to notice, that every time I would have to purchase laundry detergent, I was always looking for the best smelling, cheaper prices but formulas that I trusted. The only thing is, Tide costs $21 for a jug that lasts a month. Gain is nearly $19 and has the scent I love.

I used Purex after I left the other two brands behind due to price “inflation” or what-have-you. Purex works great and that is my go-to when I find it at a great price. The only thing is, the size I used to buy went up by two dollars. It was a better choice than the others but still wasn’t in a price range I liked. That’s when I decided to take matters into my own hands. My mom and I had been talking about making our own, but we never took the plunge to do it.

One day, I invited B’s sister over and asked if she would like to make laundry soap. She said that would be alright, so she was on her way over. I bought all of the ingredients we needed the week before, but my mom was at work over seas and couldn’t do it with me. Truth be told, I was quite afraid of doing it on my own. It seemed like such a daunting task, and I was really afraid of messing it up.

Ingredients:

1/4 bar of Fels Naptha or Zote soap
2 Tablespoons Borax powder
1/4 cup (4 Tablespoons) Arm and Hammer Washing Soda (not baking soda)
1 Cup of your favorite Purex Crystals (edited 1/12/12)
*I use Tropical Splash in the yellow container.

Note:

All four of these products can be found in your laundry detergent aisles. The Borax costed around $3.50, the Arm and Hammer Washing Soda costed close to $3.89 and the Zote and Fels-Naptha were both around $1.25. The Purex Crystals will add on another $4 but only one cup is needed so it’s still affordable with more for your actual loads.
Total for all ingredients: $13.89. With the exception of the Zote and Fels-Naptha, I can make more than 4 batches.I grated everything by hand. I grated both the Fels-Naptha and the Zote since I wanted the cleaning agents of the Fels-Naptha and the smell of the white bar of Zote. I mixed it and used a bit more than 1/4 of a cup of the mixture of both grated soaps.
The Purex Crystals make it smell even better! One cup is all it takes for two jugs to give a hint of scent.
1. Cut your Fels-Naptha or Zote bar into fourths.

2. Grate a fourth of the bar, and store the other three-fourths for your next batches.
3. Pour that fourth of grated soap into your pot. I used a stock pot since I knew I would be adding water.
4. Pour one cup of hot water into your pot, and turn the heat to medium-low.

5. Stir continuously, being sure that all of the soap dissolves. I used the wooden spoon to push the soap around the edges to melt into the water. It will have bubbles as shown below. Be sure there aren’t any chunks of soap.

6. In a bowl pour the 2 table spoons of Borax, and the 1/4 cup of Arm and Hammer Washing Soda into a bowl and mix together. Add in the 1 cup of Purex Crystals.

7. Pour ten cups of hot water into a bucket, or large container. I didn’t want to buy anything I didn’t need, so I used the hospital bath basin they let me take home from Little Girl’s surgery in August.
8. Pour the hot mixture you just melted into the pan. There will be a few bubbles.

9. Next, pour your dry Borax, Purex Crystal and Arm and Hammer Washing Soda powder mixture into the pan, and stir thoroughly.

10. Add ten more cups of hot water into the container, and mix again.
11. Cover, and let sit over night.

To be honest, I didn’t cover mine, I just let it sit overnight in our back room. I went in the next day and the whole room smelled good. It will gel through the night!

Now to make the finished product:
Using a rinsed Xtra Jug my mom gave me, I put a funnel into it, and poured one cup of the gelled mixture until it was half full. I poured the same amount of hot water into the jug, and put the lid back on. I shook it really well, and tried my first load of laundry with it! I was able to fill two 100 ounce jugs with one batch of the recipe above. We have been using this laundry soap for more than a month now, and it works really well! It doesn’t turn sudsy like most detergents, but that is not what cleans your clothes. It is the Borax and Arm and Hammer Washing Soda cleaning agents that do.

Regular machines: Use like regular laundry soap.
 (Around 3/4-1cup per load.)
HE: Use 1/4 cup per load.

You can add essential oil to make the formula smell, but it isn’t necessary. The Arm and Hammer Washing Powders do well with clean-no-smelling laundry. The Zote has a light scent, and the Fels-Naptha does as well.
I do continue to use Purex Crystals, as I love the smell. Even though I continue to buy those, we haven’t had to buy any laundry soap in more than a month! I justify my saving money on making the laundry soap for what little I spend on the Crystals. My step-dad used the other bottle I made, and he likes it really well. The entire process took me 22 minutes. That is the same amount of time it would take me to drive one way to my nearest Wal-Mart for  detergent!
Tonight I plan on making my second batch so I can make another two jugs tomorrow! These two jugs costed me way less than $2 to make, and one bottle was enough for a month. With the Purex Crystals is only costs around $2.25-$2.50 per batch (half that per jug since a batch makes two jugs!  )

Save on Eggs & Cookie Dough!

It’s been a while since I have shared grocery savings. I know this isn’t a big haul, but with prices really high around here lately I thought some would like to see that Price Matching at Wal-Mart can benefit your family if you want to stretch your grocery budget. I always like to use ads from Waco, Waxahachie, and Dallas, Texas to shop at my local Wal-Mart. As long as there is a valid date on the ads (printed or printed from online ads) my local Wal-Mart approved the Price Match Guarantee. It just so happens that Aldi’s had their dozen of eggs on sale for .99 cents last week. There was no limit so I was able to stock my fridge for the month. The Pillsbury Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough was on sale at Kroger for “Buy 4, Save $3 FINAL COST $1.75 EA. WITH CARD” because Wal-Mart’s Price Match Policy states they “gladly match the price in the following types of ads:* “Buy one, get one free ads with a specified price. Example: Buy one for $2.49, get one free (BOGO.)
-Breakdown of these products-
1 dozen eggs- Regular: $1.58 Paid: $.99 Saved: $.59 (*5= $2.95)
(5) 30 oz. Pillsbury Chocolate Chip Cookie “chubs”
 Regular: $4.18 Paid: $1.75 Saved: $2.43 (*4= $9.72)
Price Before Sales: $24.62
Total Spent: $11.95
Total Saved: $12.67
As you can see, I saved more than what I spent! These eggs will last well into the middle of January for our family. The cookie dough has been used for a treat, and for Santa and his reindeer. What type of deals do you enjoy finding?
