Purex Dirt Lift Action with Crystals Review & Giveaway

If you have been reading Mommy Does… for a while, you know that I make my own laundry detergent. However, if I do purchase laundry detergent from a store when I’m in a pinch (read, too tired to make my own…) Purex is always my first choice. Purex plus Fabric Softener combines the fragrance of Purex Crystals with the tried-and true performance of Purex laundy detergent. The bottle of detergent that I used had a fragrance of “fresh spring waters.”

Purex Dirt Lift ActionThis liquid detergent is great for everyday use and now that Dirt Lift Action has been added in, the formula works better to get deep down into clothes to get dirt out. Even though Purex now includes Fabric Softener with Crystals Fragrance, it still costs less than half the price of the leading brand. It is estimated that an average family could save more than $45 a year by using Purex with Crystals fragrance detergent.

B works road construction, and he is always working in grimy, dirty conditions. He works with oil, asphalt, diesel, and grease, dirt, and mud. All of these types of materials used for highway construction. We try to wash our clothes separately to keep the chance of these materials transferring to our school and work clothes at a minimum. So far, B has found this detergent worth the price as it removes much of the grime and dirt from his jeans and work shirts.

Even if we didn’t have his work clothes to worry about messing our own wardrobes up, I would still find this product useful the the Little Ones’ t-ball practice clothes and socks. We’re always getting red dirt from the field into our shoes, and our socks are always full by the end of practice. This detergent has helped get the clothes really clean and ready to hit the diamond again.

Our family would give it 4 out of 5 stars. This is only because I would love for there to be a lot more fragrance, since I’m a sucker for “smell-goods” as Nuderma says.

The liquid form of Purex plus Fabric Softener with Crystals Fragrance can be purchased from WalMart, Target, Kroger and Kroger, among other retailers. This Purex Product is safe for use in all machines including HE (which I hope to own one day.)

Now, back to that estimation of an average family saving $45 a year by using Purex rather than another other national brands. Keep reading for a giveaway…

L’Oreal Paris #MagicBBCream Review

If you are anything like me, you have probably searched high and low for different cosmetics to help cover any “flaws” you have have. So many products out there boast about being the newest, the best, and the most improved product on the market. L’Oreal Paris Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream is one of them. I’ve read a little bit about BB creams on other blogs, and in fashion articles. However, I’ve never used any type of BB cream before this one.

Magic BB CreamAs you can see, on the front of this product it makes mention of “FLAWLESS BARE SKIN FINISH” as well as “4 BEAUTIFYING ACTIONS IN 1.” Being a consumer who suffers from cystic acne scars, it is really hard to find a product that actually provides me with a flawless look. I used this product in my daily beauty routine by squeezing some of the product onto the top of my right hand and applying with my left fingertip. Honestly, I thought the BB cream was a joke. The color that came out of the tube was like slapping whitewash onto a tan piece of lumber. However, while blending the makeup with my fingertip it began to adjust to my skin color.

BB Cream

After blending it well, I still saw scars even after two applications of the product. I didn’t feel like I was wearing heavy makeup. It was light, and almost like a second skin. However, to get the coverage I need for my scars I used my own L’Oreal product to cover these flaws. That worked well, and my product blended easily with the Medium-toned BB Cream.  The all-in-one beauty solution didn’t hold up to my liking as much as I wished it would have. Did it “make the grade?” Find out below:

Prime- 4/5 stars. I believe this product primed my face well for other products I applied over it. These include powder, bronzer, and blush.

Perfect- 2/5 stars. This didn’t meet my expectations, nor did it meet my needs.

Hydrate- 5/5 stars. I have combination skin, and it is cold here lately. So, this kept my face at a happy medium. :D

Correct Skin- 1/5 stars. I still have visible scars and blemishes. This wasn’t a product that shows me any improvement in my skin.

Total: 12/20, or, 60%.

This product didn’t pass my test.  I will keep sticking to my own product from L’Oreal thought I wish it was more light weight than the BB cream shown above. That would be my happy medium. Plus, with the cool price of $10.95 per 1 fl oz, I’d rather put that money towards a product that is almost perfect for me. It is available in four shades at mass food and drug retailers nationwide.

The product mentioned above was provided to my by SheSpeaks.com sponsored for the L’Oreal Paris Magic BB Cream Program in exchange for this review. All opinions provided above are 100% honest, and mine.

Carter’s Watch The Wear Review and Giveaway

Carter’s Watch The Wear was established in 1859 during a time when there were just 33 states in our union. During the first year, Abigail Carter invented the first pair of overalls to be used by railroad workers and H.W. Carter continued to sale the much needed work-wear across New England with value and quality as the main focus of his clothing. Later down the road Mr. Carter became the owner of Watch The Wear and its trademark name. This company has forged ahead in times that were dire for many. Carter’s Watch The Wear has prevailed through the Great Depression while supporting American workers into a victory of World War II. Now, H.W. Carter’s company is turning a new page. Directly to the people who have always supported a family-owned company. Carter’s Watch The Wear is now available for purchase online at affordable prices for the everyday family like yours.
CartersWatchTheWear Details
There aren’t many times we review boy items here at Mommy Does… since finding products for little boys is always a bit more challenging when you have a 3 year old who is tough on clothing. I like that Carter’s Watch The Wear has proved to be worthy of my recommendation. Little Boy has a knack for playing in mud, dirt, and anywhere else he can get 5 minutes alone to explore.

Carter’s Watch the Wear offers clothing and outfits for newborns, infants, toddlers and kids. The company also offers a line of products called “baby essentials” which include a variety of 5-piece outfits (which includes a onesie, leggings/pants, a top, booties and a bib.) These outfits only cost $14.99 at this time, and would make a fantastic baby shower gift for expecting parents. There are girl’s and boy’s choices, as well as gender neutral designs if that is your preference.

The “baby essentials” line also offers a lot of choices of plush baby blankets as well as 5-packs of bibs and 4-packs of onesies. One of the cutest products available in this line are the hooded towels. My sister-in-law gifted both of our little ones a hooded towel for our baby showers and we still use that same towels to this day with no intentions of getting rid of them any time soon.

CartersWatchTheWearWe reviewed two separate outfits for Little Boy, one had a black, red, and white designed boxing hoodie with denim jeans. The hoodie is layered as a grey long-sleeved shirt more-so-than a sweatshirt, but it is perfect for our crazy Texas weather where it’s nearly summer all-year round with some chilly winds during the winter. The jeans are well made, and have withstood long hours of play without tearing. The outfit is 100% cotton and is machine washable. The retail value is normally $19.99 but costs only $12.99 at this time online.

Boxing Hoodie

The next outfit we reviewed was (and still is) my favorite design.  With a “Built to Last” emblem on the grey and black striped hoodie with a front pocket, and grey layered sleeves, this outfit is both casual, comfy, and on-point with a price we don’t mind paying. This outfit also retails for $19.99 and costs $12.99 at this time online. The 2-piece set is available in 2T, 3T, and 4T, 100% cotton and machine washable.

Carter’s Watch The Wear also provides online information about their returns and shipping policies. All non-sale items may be returned within 15 days for a complete refund. If you have questions you may contact them at (646) 560-2479 or by e-mail: orders@caterswatchthewear.com. All shipments are made via FedEx and cost is based on your location and total weight of your package. Physical addresses only or those PO Boxes with Smart Post. On another note, I love that they have their own Social Media Code of Conduct.

Great news! One Mommy Does… reader will win their own USD $25 credit to be used online at Carter’s Watch The Wear. Open to US & Canadian residents 18+.  This giveaway will run through 11:59PM on January 21st, 2013. Enter using the Giveaway Tools widget below.

New Year, New You with eMeals to #gethealthy

I’m not a stranger to the diet train. I’ve been successful on two plans in my life. Both Atkins and Weight Watchers worked well for me. When I reached my goal weight on Atkins, I really wanted to start incorporating foods into my diet that Weight Watchers would allow. So, I took the plunge (so-to-speak) and changed my routine. It worked in my favor helping me shed another 35-40 pounds that Atkins didn’t allow for.

Spring 2010

That’s when LIFE happened. You know what I’m talking about. LIFE crept up on me and took the reigns and I was no longer in control. This was back in 2010. I was doing well. I had healthy eating habits, exercised 5 days a week and my energy levels were up. That’s when the news came. I had to put my own needs on the back burner and take care of our daughter. She went in during August 2010 for a high-tibial osteotomy. After that hard 5 1/2 months, life just kept going and I haven’t really taken the time to get back on track. Since August of this year, I have been completing my senior year of college. I’ve passed my PPR exam and I’ve got one semester and a generalist exam to go before I will be a certified teacher. What a difference two years can make.

Fall 2012

Somewhere along the last two years, my family’s meals have gotten the quick and easy treatment from the help of boxed meals and throw-together dishes. There are times I take to make a planned meal, though it’s few-and-far between. We still eat an abundance of vegetable and fruits and we limit the little ones to an occasional treat, so that is still going in our favor. I just don’t have the time when I’m trying to study and there is only so often that we can eat a crock-pot meal. I love the convenience of a crock-pot meal, but most times they begin tasting the same to B and he won’t eat them after a while.

This year I pledge to make it different. I know that cutting 500 calories from my daily intake will be beneficial to me in the long-run.

500 calories less     I also know that by using a family chore chart, that I will be more apt to keep track of what needs to get done in my home, instead of writing my own list and forgetting where I put it. I’m going to frame the following chart and use a dry-erase marker to write so the planning will be quick and simple.

chore list     In the past, I create my own spreadsheet for our household budget, but am finding that I like this budgeting sheet much more and it will keep my family on-track with our spending habits. It isn’t that I go on a shopping spree everyday, it’s just the small purchases that add up. The occasional ones I didn’t think would matter costs me $100-$200 every-so-often. By see exactly what I need to purchase for a week, I will be able to budget for our weekly menus. I will still be able to price match and buy in bulk for items that freeze well since we own a deep-freezer now.

eMeals isn’t a weight-loss program. Rather, it’s a program designed to save your family money and time by planning weekly menus centered on a type of meal that you choose. Whether you want a classic meal plan, Paleo, organic, vegetarian, or a low-carb (like we have chosen to review) eMeals will be our family’s newest venture into unknown territory. I plan on undertaking an exercise plan in the coming months, and hope that with the help and planning of eMeals, I see an improvement in my planning, budget, and more time spent with my family all-the-while eating healthier and having more energy.

If you are interested in using eMeals for your own family’s needs, be sure to use the discount code “newyear” for 15% off your subscription. You don’t have to choose just a dinner subscription, there are weekly lunch plans available as well. That would be a great way to make daily lunches budget-friendly while at work.

Mrs. Smith’s Pies Gives Back to Operation Homefront

This post brought to you by Mrs. Smith’s . All opinions are 100% mine.

MrsSmith.jpg

Mrs. Smith’s pies has a really cool promotion going on right now. Mrs. Smith’s pies is doing the part to give back this Christmas season, and they couldn’t have picked a better organization to give back to.

Homefront.jpg

Operation Homefront provides emergency assistance to families of our service members and wounded worriors alike. Mrs. Smith’s will be donating $1.00 to OH for every pie they sell in the months of November and December 2012. *Up to $35,000* Promotion will conclude on January 31, 2013.

Not only are they donating $1.00 for ever pie sold, they are also donating pies to Operation Homefront for distribution by the organization.

If you visit Mrs. Smith’s microsite to send a holiday e-card to a friend or loved one, included will be a $1 off coupon for a Mrs. Smith’s pie. (Up to 50 recipients and two coupons per IP address.)

Operation Homefront

Using the microsite is rather easy. Simply visit the link for the holiday e-card, and choose which design you want to send from the two provided. I clicked the blue card with the deer on the front. Simply fill in your name and e-mail address as well as the recipients name and e-mail then click add recipient and it will move the recipients information into the white area beneath your entries. Continue entering e-mail address (op to 50) and then you can add your own note below that (up to 1500 characters.) One thing I did notice while entering and trying to submit my card is that the interface doesn’t allow an exclamation point to be included in your message. Though, I changed it to a period and it worked just fine.

We chose a pre-baked cherry pie for our dessert one night this week. We had a great hot pie within 30 minutes of popping it in the oven. Our pie was 2 lbs. 5 ounces, and plenty to share half with my step-father and uncle who live in a camper while their they are planning on re-building a home to live in. I chose a pie I knew would go over well with the little ones, while still satisfying our family’s sweet tooth. Plus, who doesn’t love a warm cherry pie and whipped cream or a la mode? Plus, this size only costs aroun $3.00 per pie at my local grocery store.

Great news! ONE winner will be selected to win a FREE PIE coupon for a Mrs. Smith’s pie as well as a $20 donation made in YOUR NAME to Operation Homefront.

Large Dinosaur Vinyl Decals for a Boys Rooms- Sticker Hub Review

Christmas is fast approaching, and we have been scrambling around here ever since my mom’s house burned in September. If you have been looking for a little bit of WOW! to update your little boy’s room, you know that boy’s decor isn’t as easy to come by as little girls ribbon and frills. Like I have said in the past, Little Boy loves anything BOY! He enjoys playing with dinosaurs as well. Before I found out about Sticker Hub, I hadn’t found any quality vinyl dinosaur decals that I really liked. I wanted them to be fun, not scary. I wanted Little Boy to like the dinosaurs and still leave some room for imagination.

Sticker Hub offers a variety of large dinosaur vinyl decals, including the kit that I chose. Dinosaur Wall Decal Kit 02 costs $44.99 at this time. Included in this kit are five large dinosaurs that are two-to-three or more times the size of my hand, as you can see in the photo below… (B says they have to be at least a foot long, each.)

As many of you know, vinyl decals are all the rage lately! I like that Sticker Hub’s decals are easy to peel from the paper it arrives on, and that they require no hard rubbing to apply to the wall. If you mess up (like I did- many times,) it’s no problem! You simply peel the decal from the wall and re-position where you want the decal then rub your hand over the sticker and you are done. An important thing you should know is that our walls are textured. I was concerned that the decals wouldn’t easily stick and stay on our son’s wall, but we have not had any issues with the decal peeling away from the sheet rock.

Sticker Hub’s order processing time is standard at 2-5 business days if ordering a product from the website. Times may defer for custom orders if issues arise with your uploaded images. My decals arrived the 5-7 days after I placed my order and Sticker Hub ships via UPS and USPS within the Continental US. Sticker Hub also offers tracking for your package except internationally. Qualifying orders that are $25+ receives free shipping as well.  Be sure to check out Sticker Hub on Facebook and Twitter to keep up-to-date on promotions and other information they may have available.

Overall, I’m very happy with the quality of Sticker Hub’s vinyl wall decals. They are well made, withstand multiple placements, and don’t tear while peeling from the sheet they arrive stuck to. I would recommend these dinosaur decals to friends and family (and readers of Mommy Does…) as a gift to little one’s in your life!

I received Dinosaur Wall Decal Kit 2 from Sticker Hub as part of an Outburst Media campaign. All opinions are 100% mine.

A #PinyponParty and Nenuco New Born Makes Bubbles Review

This last week, Little Girl had a new party for some of her friends. She hosted (meaning I hosted) a MommyParties get-together for Pinypon, a toy I had never heard of until we received an e-mail about them.

We did enjoy ourselves at the party. In exchange for hosting our Pinypon/Nenuco party, we received the following:

- (11) Collectable Pinypon Figurines
- (2) Pinypon Caravans (one used for review, one to giveaway to a guest)
- (2)  Nenuco Newborn Dolls (one used for review, one to giveaway to another guest)
- Pinypon and Nenuco Coupons for guests to have
- Easy-to-make recipes
- Games and activities information

We chose to entertain guests with a few snacking including:

Fashion & Fun Trail Mix

- 5 cups cereal (I used Multigrain Cheerios)
- 1 1/2 cups pretzel sticks
- 1 cup mini-marshmallows
- 1 cup golden raisins
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

We also made a drink for guests called:
Pinypon Punch

- 6 ounces frozen Lemonade
- 2 liters ginger ale
- 1 small container pink sherbet
- 1 small container frozen strawberries

Pour all ingredients into a bowl, and top with the sherbet.

We used the Pinypon markers we received as an ice-breaker. The children were allowed to pull a marker from a bowl, and the marker had a number on it. #1 was chosen to pick their Pinypon figurine first, until they were all claimed by a loving owner.

Pinypon allows children to be as creative as they want by allowing for their Pinypon figurines to be customizable and collectible. Whether your little girl likes shopping, cooking, fashion or is an animal lover, there is a Pinypon figurine for her! Just how can you customize your Pinypon figurine? By interchanging all of the following: hair, head, body, legs, and accessories, your child can create a unique new toy that shows their very own personality! Faces can also be swapped out to find just the right style to match your child. Pinypon figurines are a great idea for little girls to share their toys with others! One can borrow an accessory or hairstyle and swap out as they see fit! The dolls are well constructed and easy to assemble while switching out accessories.

The Nenuco doll was also introduced to my guests and is brought to us by Famosa (the same company that sells Pinypon figurines.) This doll love being fed, bathed, dressed, and put to sleep. Children ages 4-6 will find this baby doll interesting as she can grow with your child by teaching nurturing and educational play. If you have a new baby on the way, your daughter might love to take care of her own baby doll to show her how you will care for your new bundle of joy! Famosa is known for high-quality dolls with engaging and unique features and has been a leading European toy company for more than 50 years! The doll is made of quality products, and the outfit is absolutely adorable! I love the little bippy (pacifier) the baby doll has. Even Little Boy enjoys telling me she is crying and needs her bippy.

Each Little Girl that attended received a certificate with their name, and the name of their Pinypon doll they chose. Parents who attended didn’t leave empty handed either! They received a product information sheet, and coupons for both Pinypon products and the Nenuco New Born Makes Bubbles doll.

Tracy L. Highly started her first novel at the age of eight and has been hooked on writing ever since. She has authored nine novels, including Garden of Madness. Tacy is currently persuing a graduate degree in Ancient History and has traveled through Greece, Turkey, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, and Italy, researching her novels and falling into adventures. You can read more about her travels via her website.

My thoughts: I think this book has come a ways from when it was known as Shadow of Colussus. The cover is beautiful, as it provides a great setting for imagery. I like that the book comes with a reading group guide. None of the chapters are terribly long, though there are 42 chapters and 374 pages. This is my first book from Ancient History, and I actually liked it! Thanks BookSneeze for introducing me to Historical Fiction! Isle of Shadows- Book Review: 4/5 stars…

Dosclosure: I received the book mentioned above for free in exchange for my time spent to read and review it.

All aboard! The Polar Express comes to life this holiday season as the Texas State Railroad rolls out of the station bought for the “North Pole!” Come early and climb aboard with your family to cozy-up and enjoy our festively-decorated vintage train cars. Dancing chefs deliver hot chocolate and a cookie to each quest to savor while music from the Polar Express movie plays en route to the North Pole. Before arriving at the North Pole the iconic book, The Polar Express is read as your Chef turns the pages to share the beautiful illustrations in the original book.

As you stay comfortably settled and warm in your seat, Santa and his helper elf board the train! During the return trip, Santa will greet each child with his signature holiday holiday spirit and the first gift of Christmas: a bell cut from his sleigh. For those wanting the magic to last or to do a little Christmas shopping, visit our gift shop in the station for special Polar Express gifts and merchandise.
